DELHI & AMRITSAR...THE FIRST WEEK

It is not the Delhi of old. The city is making rapid progress. There is a brand new airport, huge and very modern, with all the modern facilities and plenty of helping hand to guide you and assist you . The progress in part is due to the 2010 commonwealth games taking place next year. There is construction everywhere, new roads flyovers and plenty of new hotels. Good for tourists as hotel prices have come down.

The first few days have been fairly uneventful, however interesting. India is all about temples, modern and ancient. The Birla temple complex is massive and modern. On the other hand Akshar Dham which is really a copy of Neasden temple except it is ten times bigger and better.
The construction is very beautiful with all the carving in marble in great detail. A visit to this temple is a must for anyone travelling to Delhi.

The Lotus temple is something completely different. This place invites people of all religions and races to prey silently inside. There are no statutes or symbols or any effects inside. There are no priests or any rituals performed inside the building.

The trip so far in the first few days has been relaxing. The heat is intense. Cannot handle the heat very well.

Sorry no picture in this post for two reasons. The temples we have visited do not allow photography and secondly this computer has no Microsoft picture manager.

Next post all about Amritsar and some more temples.

  1. Finally - my chance to get my own back with the comments! I remember a certain Dad who was very picky about my spelling when writing my blog - so I feel I have to point out that you "pray" in a temple - not "prey"!!
Also - I will email you about what to do if there is no Picture Manager!!
Missing you guys loads!!! Love you
